I hate gear oil. I hate the smell of it, I hate the consistency of it, I hate that it’s the kind of like molasses and once you get it on you it just doesn’t wipe off. So filling up diffs sucks (my mom hates that word by the way) and is always a messy job. Proper gear oil pumps are stupid expensive though, so today’s top tip is to just get a marine gear oil pump for a lower unit (they’re cheap) and drill a 17mm hole in the cap off a regular 1 litre bottle (the cap size on marine oil is different). Glue it up with some epoxy (because I like to overdo everything) and hey presto! Cheap gear oil pump!
