We're on the lookout for the following project cars right now in the UK. Cash waiting and can transport them off your drive. Pre-oval dash 944 manual (1985 and older) 924s - 2.5 924 Prefer black interiors (doesn't matter if it's not a Pasha interior - but damn it is cool), and black cars if possible. Motors not important, they don't even need to be

You spin me right ’round…

This is a set of original Avus 17" wheels that needed a refurb. They were fundamentally in fairly good shape, just tired from 120k of road use.  Sand, prime, sand, prime - continue until the finish is lovely and smooth with no signs of scratches or other blemishes. The key to a good finish is always in the time spent prepping and sanding. Once they

It’s simple, and it’s dry…

Air-cooled engines are just simple things. Sure, they're a bit high-strung, drip oil and don't provide any discernible heating supply - but what they lack in additional fluids they make up for with simple engineering. They're also relatively dry, and without water everywhere pulling them out of a car is a pretty simple procedure. I've pulled motors on lifts, in pits and just on the ground

Down by the bay…

The stock CDI unit had been removed by a previous owner on this motor and it was running on just a 12v coil, so a MSD 6A was fitted along with electronic points and high-gauge ignition leads. Something was still wrong with the timing curve though, and after investigation into the distributor the answer was revealed. Someone had been tampering with the weights and it

Holding in the juice…

Any weight that can be shifted from the front of an Audi to the rear helps with weight distribution. Quattro cars are very nose heavy, and prone enough to understeer that it often makes turn-in feel more like wishful thinking and daydreaming. Part of the answer is a shift of the battery to the rear, and in this making a battery cage and then running new cables back

So many wires…

Engine swaps can be done in a number of ways, and can therefore yield different results in terms of reliability and servicing. Inevitably, in any swap, there will be the ultra-confusing and disheartening moment when you are staring at a pile of tangled wires and wondering why you didn't get into repairing sewing-machines or flashlights (that's torches for my UK friends). Here is that point

1.8 litres of the way things were…

This is the original 1.8 4cyl that was in the B3 80 Quattro. Not a bad little motor really. When it came to us someone had been clearly having a play trying to get it to idle, but missing the actually cause of the problem. The rubber boots connecting the fuel metering and the intake are notorious for developing small cracks over time, which is

Now back in black…

You can now also get our shirts in black, and in both long and short sleeve. We have a few variations available including the Diverge design.

Subframe fit for a picture-frame…

Underneath every car, no matter how much rust and rot there is at the beginning, is a brand new car that just needs unearthing. One of the things that is great about the amount of information available to us is that we can source brand new NOS parts fairly early (if you compare to 20 years ago) as all we need to do is find out where

That new-turbo smell…

Here is a set of K03 turbos fresh from a rebuild which included blasting, new hardware and new balanced cores from The Turbo Unit. These units looked amazing once they came back considering the state of them when they came off the car. In this case, the decision was taken to stay with the smaller K03 turbos rather than do the more traditional K04 upgrade.
